DISNEY WORLD ORLANDO DROPS ‘NIGHT OF JOY’ CHRISTIAN MUSIC FESTIVAL
Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida has ended it’s annual Christian music festival called ‘Night of Joy.’ Since it started more than 30 years ago it has been a popular faith based attraction for families.
The annual event which started in 1983 was held in early September and had popular Christian artists like TobyMac, Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, MercyMe, and Kirk Franklin, Jars of Clay, and Michael W. Smith.
“Last year was our last event” stated a Disney spokesperson.
Despite the cancellation Disney will still feature various Christian groups and artists at the resort. MercyMe and Tauren Wells are slated to perform later this year at Disney’s Eat to the Beat Concert Series.
Universal Orlando also holds an annual two-night Christian concert series called Rock the Universe which started in 1998. It is held around the same time in September as Night of Joy. Universal calls it “Florida’s biggest Christian music festival”
For families who previously enjoyed the Night of Joy festival, this years Rock the Universe event will be on September 7th and 8th and includes Casting Crowns, Jesus Culture, TobyMac and For King and Country.
