Spiritual Warfare in Today’s World

In the world we live in today some Christians don’t believe in the unseen.  Angels and demons are a part of the unseen realm whether we believe it or not.  All through the New Testament Jesus was dealing with demons.  Every day we deal with spiritual warfare from the choices we make to the things we do.  Many of those choices can have a great impact on our life as Christians.  One wrong choice or decision can have a disastrous impact on our life.  That’s why it’s important to know the enemy and what we’re fighting.  Look at what Paul says in Ephesians 6:12.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12

Look at everything going on in the News, Politics and Hollywood lately.  The world is under the influence of severe spiritual warfare now.  Even Jesus himself dealt with spiritual warfare from the devil when he was in the wilderness.  We need to know our enemy so we can be battle ready, because Christianity is under attack.  The world has been drifting farther and farther away from God and they want us to conform to their system.  If we don’t go along with the worldly system we are attacked for our faith being called bigots and they say to us “who are you to judge.”  Look all the private business owners being persecuted because of their faith.  Five years ago a Denver baker, Jack Phillips refused to make a wedding cake for two gay men because of his faith and is still battling in court because of his decision.  All headlines will likely focus on a baker and a wedding cake not the ramifications for anyone whose faith puts them at odds with the government. Then there’s the public servant Kim Davis who is the Rowan County Kentucky clerk who refused to issue marriage certificates to same-sex couples in 2015, citing her Christian faith.  She spent five days in jail for that decision.  Now because of the society we live in, we see this happening in our country more and more and it’s only going to get worse.  Jesus told us this would happen.

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me.” John 15:18-21

We need to stand firm in Christ.  We are the one thing standing in between the darkness. The enemy is using the society today to try to snuff out the light we have.  This is the spiritual battle we’re in.  If we stay battle ready and put on the full armor of god, we can stand against the enemy.  We want our light to shine for others to see.  We have to be the salt and the light.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16

There will always be circumstances in our lives trying to prevent us from sharing the gospel.  No matter what obstacles get in the way whether seen or unseen it’s our job as disciples to share the good news.

“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Mark 16:15.
